The Nigerian government has announced that from Sunday, September 1, 2024, citizens will have to pay more for obtaining their international passport.
In a statement issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Wednesday night through its spokesman, Mr Kenneth Udo, it was explained that the increment was because of its determination to “maintain the quality and integrity” of the Nigerian passports.
The NIS noted that the 5-year passport with 32 pages, which currently costs N35,000 will now be N50,000, while the 10-year passport with 64 pages, presently at N70,000, will now require N100,000 to obtain.
“As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport, the federal government has approved an upward review of the fees for the passport effective from September 1, 2024.
“Based on the review, 32-page passport booklet with 5-year validity previously charged at N35,000 will be N50,000 only, while 64-page passport booklet with 10-year validity which was N70,000 will be N100,000 only. However, the fees remain unchanged in diaspora.
“While the Nigeria Immigration Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” the statement said.
