In an inspiring feat, Oluwatosin Oluyoye embarked on a 30-day mission to set a new Guinness World Record for most hugs given in a single month. Starting in London on June 22, 2024, Oluyoye aimed to surpass the current record of 50,361 hugs, set in Japan in 2011.
Oluyoye’s journey began in London, where he hugged locals and visitors from around the world, symbolizing human connection and kindness. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how the simple act of a hug brought comfort and brightness to their day.
On July 17, Oluyoye continued his mission in Lagos, Nigeria, where he added another 9,590 hugs to his total, bringing the grand total to 40,810. Despite hugging not being a deeply rooted tradition in Nigeria, the initiative was met with enthusiasm from students, market vendors, and youths across Lagos.
Since returning to the UK, Oluyoye has received positive feedback, with many sharing how the simple act of a hug lifted their spirits. Inspired, Oluyoye is planning another record attempt and seeking sponsors to support future initiatives.
Oluyoye expressed gratitude to his teams, family, and friends for their support, highlighting the transformative power of simple acts of kindness. He believes such efforts can heal, improve mental health, and spread positivity, especially during challenging times.
