TEAM Nigeria’s brightest medal prospect in athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Tobi Amusan, began her quest today by easing into the women’s 100 metres hurdles semi-finals.
The world record holder at 12.12 seconds comfortably won the first heat of the morning, clocking 12.49s.
United State of America’s Alaysha Johnson finished second in 12.61s and Janeek Brown of Jamaica was third in 12.84s.
Overall among the 18 athletes that advanced to the semi-finals, Amusan had the second best first round timing.
The Nigerian star’s 12.49s was second to only Jasmine Camacho-Quinn’s 12.42s, with USA’s Masai Russell’s 12.53s the third fastest time.
The semi-finals will be held on Friday morning and the final on Saturday night.
Amusan, 27, is aiming for her first Olympic medal after her stunning double achievement of a world record and World Athletics Championship title in 2022.
