Marvellous Godwins Omobayo has affirmed his position as the authentic Deputy Governor of Edo State, maintaining that he continues to carry out his constitutional duties despite ongoing legal battles surrounding his office.
Omobayo made this assertion on Thursday during a solidarity visit from the leadership and members of the three recognized transport unions in Edo State.
He reassured his supporters that he remains undistracted by the litigations, expressing his unwavering focus on aiding Governor Godwin Obaseki in achieving economic prosperity and the transformation of Edo State.
“I am not in any way distracted by the ongoing litigation relating to my office,” Omobayo declared.
“My focus remains on supporting Governor Godwin Obaseki to ensure the economic prosperity and transformation of Edo State.”
This statement comes in the wake of a recent ruling by the Appeal Court in Abuja, which reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Shaibu was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly after a fallout with Governor Obaseki. Following Shaibu’s impeachment, Governor Obaseki swore in Omobayo as the new Deputy Governor.
Despite the court’s decision, Omobayo has continued to assert his position and carry out his responsibilities, signaling a continued dispute over the office of the Deputy Governor.
