Two days after bandits reportedly abducted a mobile police officer in Plateau State, the state’s police command said it is uninformed about the incident.
The officer was kidnapped on Wednesday evening around the Kampani community in Wase Local Government Area, according to reports.
The incident reportedly took place as the officer, accompanied by a soldier, was en route from Zurak to Kampani.
Following the ambush by bandits, the policeman was abducted while the soldier managed to escape.
The two security personnel were said to be part of a team assigned to patrol areas plagued by banditry, including Bangalala, Kampani, and Zurak.
Sahapi Sambo, a youth leader from the area, confirmed the attack to Daily Trust. He expressed concern over the officer’s whereabouts, noting that the area has been under the constant threat of bandit activities, which has necessitated regular patrols by security forces.
On Thursday, security personnel, including soldiers, policemen, and vigilantes, reportedly tracked the bandits to their hideout in an effort to rescue the kidnapped officer. However, the success of the operation remained unconfirmed.
