Police in Jigawa State have arrested 55 protesters for alleged vandalism and looting of both private and government properties.
The state police spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued to DAILY POST.
This follows Thursdayโs protest, which resulted in the deaths of two people and left many others injured.
He explained that some of the items recovered from the protesters include 35 motorcycles, 3 tricycles, 12 bicycles, 111 bags of fertilizer, chairs and 40 cartons of mosquito nets.
The arrested suspects are accused of trespassing at the Hadejia LG Secretariat, setting fire to six parked vehicles, vandalizing JASCO stores, and stealing fertilizer and foodstuffs in Gumel LG.
The suspects also set fire to the house of National Assembly member Hon. Nazifi Sani, vandalized the NITDA office, and looted the APC state secretariat before setting it ablaze.
