Police arrest three suspected gunrunners in Katsina

The Police in Katsina state have arrested three suspected gunrunners in the state.

The Commandโ€™s Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Abubakar Aliyu made this disclosure to newsmen at a press briefing on Friday.

According to him, a large cache of ammunition was recovered from the suspects.

Aliyu said that the trio were arrested by the police on Aug. 29, at about 12:45 am in Dutsina Local Government Area of the state.

He said, โ€They were arrested while attempting to deliver 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to suspected armed bandits in Yauni forest, Ummadau village, Safana LGA of Katsina State.โ€

The PPRO added that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects received the ammunition from someone in Nasarawa State to deliver to one Harisu, a suspected notorious bandit kingpin, currently at large.

โ€œThey have confessed to their involvement and implicated Harisu as the mastermind,โ€ he added.

He said that the command was working tirelessly to apprehend more suspects and bring them to justice.

โ€œThis achievement demonstrates our commitment to combating armed banditry and gunrunning in Katsina State and beyond,โ€ he said.
