The Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday identified a famous crossdresser, popularly known as ‘Abuja Area Mama,’ found dead in the Banex area of the Federal Capital Territory as Ifeanyi Chukwu-Agah Benedict.
Benedict was seen lying motionless along the Katampe-Mabushi Expressway on August 8, 2024.
In a distress call placed to the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command Josephine Adeh, she said the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh had ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Two weeks after the investigative order by the FCT CP, Adeh in a statement sent to NewsNGR said Benedict’s death was a “Culpable homicide”.
The statements themed “RE: CULPABLE HOMICIDE: POLICE FINALLY IDENTIFY MALE CROSS-DRESSER FOUND DEAD ON KATAMPE-MABUSHI EXPRESSWAY” identified the deceased as a 33-year-old man.
It reads, “Sequel to a case of culpable homicide and discovery of an unidentified male corpse earlier mistaken for a female on August 8, 2024.
“The operatives of the FCT Command have begun a discreet investigation as ordered by the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh.
“Preliminary investigations revealed the deceased to be one Ifeanyi Chukwu-Agah Benedict, a ‘33’ year old man who hails from Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and resides at Dapé in Karmo Area of Abuja.
“The family of the deceased have also been contacted, as they are aiding the police with necessary information.
“Further development will be communicated in due course,” the police said.
