Protest: ‘I Paid N5000 To Collect My Stolen Phone’-Kubwa Resident Laments

Unruly protesters in Kubwa, the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) have resorted to snatching the phones of residents who stood by to capture the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

NewsNGR reports that the protesters trooped out at the Dei-dei Kubwa Express Road carrying green leaves in their hands shouting “Baamu ayi! Baamu ayi!”.

One of the residents, Chike Obiano whose phone was seized, stated that when he saw the youths protesting, he had brought out his phone to video the protest when one of the protesters snatched his phone.

“ I wanted to drag with them but the other protesters gathered around me. One of them even brought out a knife. I started pleading with them. I had to pay N5,000 before they released my phone,” he said.

Another resident, Mary Ben tearfully said that her Samsung phone was collected from her by one of the protesters, adding that her plea for them to return the phone fell on deaf ears.

“ I don’t even know the person that collected the phone. I have gone to people they said are their leaders to complain but they said that they can’t do anything,” she lamented.

NewsNGR also saw another man whose phone was confiscated pleading with the protesters to release his phone.

“I will pay anything to get the phone,” he told the protesters.
