Rivers Assembly Screens, Confirms Five New Commissioners

The Rivers  State House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, in a move to strengthen the State Executive Council, has screened and confirmed five commissioner nominees on Tuesday.

The confirmation follows a request by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the Assembly to vet the nominees.

The nominees, who were confirmed today, are:

Mr. Ilamu Arugu, Dr. Rowland Obed Whyte and Hon. Dr. Sam Anya. 

While others are Mr. Samuel Eyiba and Sir Austin Emeka Nnadozie. 

Their confirmation was announced by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo on the floor of the house, paving the way for them to join the state executive council.

The Commissioner nominees while fielding questions from Lawmakers said they will bring their wealth of experience to bare, if cleared.

They however, promised to discharge their duties diligently and hundred percent serviceable to the State.

Commencing debate on the screening, Leader, Sokari Goodboy Sokari urged his colleagues not to delay the confirmation, adding that the nominees have served the State in various capacity and are  of  proven integrity.

The Leader said the speedy confirmation of the nominees will help fill in vacant positions in the Rivers State Executive council, noting that the State has suffered a set back in that regard.

Deputy Speaker Timothy Orubienimigha who toed the line of the Leader for the confirmation of  the nominees  seconded the motion as moved by Leader.

The Speaker in his remarks said the new commissioners are expected to bring their expertise and experience to bear in their respective portfolios, contributing to the development and growth of Rivers State.

However, the presentation of the report on the Rivers State Transport Authority Reform Bill 2024  by the ADHOC Committee was extended by two weeks.
