The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has condemned the recent purchase of a new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu, calling it an insensitive decision given the economic hardships currently plaguing the nation.
Gabam made his views known during an interview on Channels TVโs โPolitics Today,โ where he criticized the governmentโs priorities in light of the ongoing struggles faced by many Nigerians.
โThe President knows it is insensitive to buy a new aircraft at this time. Our aircraft can deliver the President wherever he wants to go right now,โ Gabam stated.
He further noted, โThey bought a brand new aircraft for the President; it is one of the best in the world. So you can see the sequence of their activities despite the economic hardship.โ
Gabamโs comments reflect a broader sentiment of frustration among the public regarding government spending. With inflation, unemployment, and other economic challenges on the rise, many Nigerians are questioning the wisdom of such high-profile expenditures at a time when resources could be better allocated to address pressing needs.
The SDP Chairmanโs criticism is likely to fuel ongoing debates about government accountability and the need for more prudent financial management in the face of national hardship.
