Four people have lost their lives in a boat mishap that happened on Sunday evening at Dundaye community in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The Head of the Sokoto field operation office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.
Kafindangi revealed that a total of 24 people were involved in the accident, but 19 have been successfully rescued, with one still missing.
โBased on the investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident but 19 of them have been rescued.
โOne dead body was recovered on Sunday, and three more were found on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities to four. Unfortunately, one person remains missing, but search and rescue operations are still ongoing,โ Kafindangi stated.
The rescue operations include NEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, the State Emergency Management Agency, and local divers.
Kafindangi expressed gratitude for the support provided by state and local governments, as well as the community, toward the success of the rescue operations.
The cause of the boat mishap remains unknown but authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
