Suspected Power Pole Vandal Remanded In Enugu

One Aliyu Saad, male, has been remanded at the Correctional Custodial Centre, Enugu, on the orders of the Enugu North Magistrate’s Court after being charged with vandalising streetlight poles.

He was arrested on August 8, 2024, around 4.30am by the Enugu State Police Command Operatives serving in the New Haven Division, THE WHISTLER gathered.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspect was arraigned today, and remanded pending further hearing.

Quoting him, “The suspect was arrested for allegedly uprooting and stealing a street light pole at New Artisan, Enugu, following the operatives’ swift response to credible information on the criminal act.

“This operational feat is coming on the heels of the marching orders issued to police operatives of the command by the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, to clamp down on unrepentant criminal elements, including those hell-bent on vandalising public infrastructures in Enugu State.”

Our correspondent reports that CP Uzuegbu had earlier charged the operatives to sustain the onslaught against criminals in the state.

He also urged the citizens of the state to continue to be law-abiding, vigilant and promptly report criminals and their activities to the nearest police station.
