The Director of Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr. Sam Amadi has said that the policies of President Bola Tinubu have not yielded results.
Amadi who was a former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) said that Tinubu’s cabinet has not performed well over the last one year.
He said some of the ministries have made good policies while a majority of the ministries have under-performed.
He said, “On economy, the big deal here, in my view we’ve not seen significant de-escalation of inflation or even interest rate. Of ourse, it is being used as a strategy to perhaps deal with inflation, so the inflation will stay high.
“So basic indicators in terms of unemployment, in terms of poverty reduction, or in terms of social welfare indicators, we’ve not seen in the last year much, in fact, we have seen things have worsened actually, maybe they can get better in the future, but for now they’ve not gotten better.”
Commenting on the performance of the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, the expert said the minister has not made any significant improvement on the road network.
Amadi said, “Works many times on some job here and there, but so far you can’t say we have seen significant improvement in interstate roads.
“I mean the massive Lagos/Calabar Coastal road is actually not a priority, maybe it can be delivered, maybe it will add to gross domestic product in five, ten years.
“But we have not seen any focus recovery of Nigeria roads, I just flew yesterday and I can tell you the airport is overused, everybody’s on those who can’t afford it or fly, a country whose mode of travel is flying from state to state is not a viable country, it can never be. Road network is critical to economic growth. There no significant improvement or record a performance or achievements if you look at sector by sector.”
