Troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army, during a clearance operation in Kaduna, killed a terrorist and discovered a stockpile of weapons and ammunition.
In a statement released in Kaduna on Monday, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, stated that the operation took place on Sunday in the general regions of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji.
“Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army while on clearance operation in the general areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji on 25 August 2024 made contact with elements of terrorists,” the statement read.
According to him, during the mission, forces came into touch with terrorist elements. This sparked a shootout in which one terrorist was killed and others fled the scene with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
According to the Army spokesman, the soldiers also found two motorcycles, four AK-47 magazines, a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammo, a Techno cell phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and a N5,000 Airtel recharge card.
“In the firefight that ensued, troops overpowered and neutralised one of the terrorists while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries.
“Troops recovered four AK-47 magazines (three fully loaded with a total quantity of 60 x 7.62mm Special ammunition and one empty magazine), a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed), a Techno mobile phone, a Baofeng Handheld Radio, and an Airtel recharge card valued at 5,000 naira only.”
The statement said the commander of Operation Whirl Punch and the General Officer Commanding the 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, had congratulated the troops on their accomplishment and asked them to keep making life miserable for terrorists, insurgents, and those who support them.
“The General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH Major General Mayirenso Lander Saraso has commended the troops for the successful operation and charged them to redouble their efforts as well as make life most unbearable for all terrorists, insurgents, and their collaborators in the Division’s Area of Responsibility.
“He commended the good people of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their continuous cooperation and urged them to always make good use of the Division’s Toll-Free Line “0800 002 0204″ to communicate actionable intelligence and information that will further assist the Division and other security agencies to project offensive operations against the criminal elements,” Yahaya said.
