Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, honoring a previously issued invitation. This follows the EFCCโs earlier declaration of Bello as wanted after several unsuccessful attempts to arrest him over alleged money laundering involving N80 billion.
Bello had been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on April 18, 2024.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Ohiare Michael, Director of the Yahaya Bello Media Office, explained that Belloโs decision to respond to the EFCCโs invitation came after thorough consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
The statement noted that Bello was accompanied to the EFCC Headquarters by prominent Nigerians. It expressed hope that the EFCC would conduct its investigation professionally and uphold Belloโs fundamental rights as a citizen of Nigeria.
โDetails of his engagement with the operatives of the Anti-Graft Agency will be disclosed later,โ the statement concluded.
