It has been reported that President Bola Tinubu will skip the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) holding in New York, United States of America (USA).
According to the presidency, Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeriaโs delegation to the meeting of the deliberative, policymaking, and representative organ of the UN.
Why President Tinubu Is Skipping UNGA
โPresident Tinubu, who returned to the country last Sunday after his trip to China and the United Kingdom, wants to focus on domestic issues and address some of the countryโs challenges, especially after the recent devastating flooding.
โAt UNGA 79, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeriaโs national statement to the General Assembly, attend important sideline events, and hold bilateral meetings,โ the presidency disclosed on Thursday.
The General Assembly meets annually at the General Assembly Building within the UN headquarters in New York City.
This yearโs meeting is themed โLeaving No One Behind Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development and Human Dignity for present and future generationsโ and will run from September 24 to September 28, 2024.
