The Zone 2 Command of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a landlady, Atolagbe Mojisola, 53, and her alleged accomplice, Saheed Olaniyi, 44, for allegedly assaulting Oluwadamilare Dada, a 20-year-old physically challenged son of her tenant, Omobolaji Dada.
The defendants were charged before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for the assault, which resulted in injuries requiring hospital admission.
According to the police, the defendants intentionally attacked the victim, leading to his hospitalization, saying when the victim’s father intervened, Mojisola reportedly threatened him with violence.
Following these events, Omobolaji Dada filed a petition with the Zone 2 Command, prompting the arrest of the defendants.
The defendants appeared before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court at Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, facing a three-count charge related to the assault of the physically challenged individual and threats of violence.
Police Prosecuting Counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa, informed the court that the alleged offences occurred on November 28, 2023, and April 2, 2024, at 23 Love All Street, Ikosi, Ketu, Lagos.
Igbinosa detailed that the complainant had left his son at home while he went to work and that upon his return, he discovered that the defendants had assaulted his son, knowing of his physical challenges, leading to hospitalization.
The charges are punishable under Sections 173, 56(a), and 172(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate B.A. Sonuga granted each defendant bail of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned to October 29, 2024, for mention, and the defendants were ordered to be held at the Kirikiri and Ikoyi correctional facilities until they fulfill their bail conditions.
