The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out a suit seeking to stop the National Convention of the Accord Party aimed at electing national officers for the party.
Justice Peter Lifu threw out the suit while delivering a ruling on an ex-parte application brought before him by the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party.
The BoT members are Rev Isaac Adebayo Adeniyi, Innocent Igboekwe, Prince Joseph James, Jamilu Abass, Dalhatu Liman, and Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi as 1st to 6th applicants.
In their ex-parte application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/145/2024, they applied to the court for an order stopping the National Convention.
They predicated their request on a series of allegations, among which are deliberate breaches of the party’s constitution and guidelines, as major reasons for seeking to stop the convention.
The defendants in the suit are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Hon Mohammed Lawal Nalado, Michael Lerama, Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem, and the Accord Party as 1st to 5th defendants.
Trouble, however, erupted for the applicants when the judge discovered that the disputed National Convention was to have been conducted in the first week of August.
Justice Lifu held that the case of the applicants had become useless and could not confer any advantages on the applicants, having been overtaken by events.
The judge subsequently struck out the suit.
