Nigerians have been advised by a senior special assistant to Lagos State Governor, Biliamin Oba, to reduce their spending to cope with the current economic situation they are faced with.
The advice was given by Mr. Oba on Tuesday in Badagry during the 2024 International Youth Day event hosted by the Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).
The theme of the event was “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”
Former NYCN Lagos chairman Mr. Oba stated that all hands needed to be on deck due to the current state of affairs in the nation.
“We need to start cutting our costs, pending the time things will stabilise; everything has increased; transportation costs and standards of living have skyrocketed.
“We have to reduce costs. The present situation has become a burden on us, so we have to be economical.
“I am very sure President Bola Tinubu has a great plan for this country, and Sanwo-Olu is also working round the clock to ensure Lagos remains the best place for all and sundry,” he said.
Ashade Abdulsalam was thanked by Mr. Oba for putting up the program to educate the council’s youth.
The CEO of Coach Africa, Afeez Iyiola, spoke on the theme and stated that young people were the future of the present, not the future of the future.
“Youths need to be very patient and resilient. They need to understand that they are going to fail, but when you fail, you’re going to come back to become stronger.
“I want youths to begin to embrace failure as a way of becoming better.
“Failure has been depriving them of what they can be. The future is the youths, and the future is now, so the youths need to stand up now,” he said.
In addition, Oluwole Ashade of the Lagos State High Court’s Yaba Division stated that young people need to be totally committed to advancement and sustainable development.
He asserts that digital technology may now be used for real business and is no longer only a tool for communication.
The young people were exhorted to stop using drugs and committing crimes by Folajimi Agosile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Badagry police station.
He claims that drugs and violent gangs have devastated the lives of many young people who had hope for a better future.
The program’s goal, according to Abdulsalam Ashade, coordinator of NYCN for the Olorunda LCDA chapter, is to enhance young people’s use of social media.
