‘Edo People Know What Is Right’ – Sanwo-Olu Reacts To Okpebholo’s Election Victory

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his victory in last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

According to him, the victory for APC was evident, and the people of Edo State knew the right thing to do.

Naija News reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced Okpebholo as the winner of the poll after surpassing his primary opponents, Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party (LP).

The APC candidate received a total of 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo secured 247,274 votes. Akpata from the Labour Party finished significantly behind with 22,763 votes.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, on Monday, Sanwo-Olu characterized the election result as a “landslide victory” for the APC.

He regarded the outcome as evidence of the party’s sustained influence throughout Nigeria at various governmental levels.

Sanwo-Olu further commended the citizens of Edo State for their decision to reject the ruling PDP and support the APC candidate, highlighting that their choice reflects a clear statement of intent.

“I congratulate Edo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for emerging victorious in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

“The landslide victory of Senator Okpebholo and the ruling party showed that Edo people know what is right, and they have done what is right by sacking the PDP and voting for the APC,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He encouraged the Governor-elect to ensure that his success benefits all citizens of Edo State, irrespective of their political, social, or ethnic backgrounds, emphasizing the importance of making this victory meaningful for every Edo resident.

Sanwo-Olu further conveyed his belief that the APC administration in Edo would exceed the electorate’s expectations, heralding what he called a “new era” for the state.

The Governor of Lagos State also praised President Bola Tinubu for creating an equitable environment during the election. It recognized the contributions of the INEC in facilitating a fair and transparent electoral process.

Earlier, Tinubu extended his congratulations to the governor-elect and the APC as a whole for their electoral success.

He also commended the security forces for their role in ensuring the safety of all participants in the election.

Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude to prominent APC leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and members of the National Campaign Council led by Governor Bassey Ottu, for their significant contributions to achieving the party’s victory in Edo.
