FRSC Arrests 823 Drivers, Impounds 189 Vehicles For Traffic Offences

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has apprehended 823 drivers and impounded 189 vehicles for various traffic offences within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The enforcement, which is part of the ongoing โ€˜Operation Karara,โ€™ saw the fining of 923 drivers and withdrawal of 634 licences and vehicle particulars.

This was disclosed on Friday by FRSC spokesperson, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, who explained that โ€˜Operation Kararaโ€™ was initiated on September 2 to address increasing violations of traffic lights and other road safety regulations.

According to Olusegun, the operation aims to improve road discipline and reduce infractions such as zebra crossing violations and dangerous driving.

Ogungbemide stated that the arrested drivers face charges including traffic light violations, dangerous driving, and reckless behaviour on the roads. He emphasised the operationโ€™s focus on rapid enforcement, with offenders promptly arrested and prosecuted.

โ€œIn order to consolidate on the gains recorded during the patrol operations and further entrench sanity in the use of traffic lights in the FCT, the Corps Marshal appeals to motorists to cooperate with its personnel and obey all traffic rules and regulations,โ€ Ogungbemide added.

The FRSC said it committed to ensuring road safety and reducing traffic offences within the FCT through continuous enforcement efforts.
