The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has vowed to never back Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara politically again, accusing him of ingratitude, false allegations and betraying the structure that elevated him.
While appearing on Channels TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Friday night, Wike who referred to Fubara as his estranged political godson, claimed that he sacrificed significantly to ensure Fubara’s rise in Rivers politics, only to be unfairly accused of demanding funds in return.
“I will never support Fubara in my political life again. I won’t do that. That’s one thing people should know me for. I don’t double deal. It is not about me. People laboured to put up a structure where you won’t have even taken 50th position. I sacrificed to talk to the Ogonis and others, you turned it that I am asking for N20 billion, N100 billion.
“You brought up lies against me. I brought you up, pushed you here, put you there and today they now say Wike is over-demanding. What is Wike demanding? You rose through people. You rose through somewhere. Why do you deny it? It is fair”.
Wike also criticised the actions of some governors of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and accused them of attempting to render him politically irrelevant in Rivers State.
The FCT minister further vowed to stir a political crisis in the governors’ states over their alleged interference in Rivers politics.
“I said to the PDP Governors Forum and I repeat without any apology to anybody who is anywhere. For crying out loud, heaven will never fall. In fact when heaven falls there will be peace. I was governor. The only person I can say I have no relationship and I never knew about his election is the governor of Zamfara.
“I don’t know him. If I see him now, I won’t even know him. And I have no problem. All the other ones I know them and they know me.
“They have a relationship. You mean that you want to violate our constitution? You came out of your meeting, led by the governor of Bauchi state who is Chairman of teh PDP Governors’ Forum that they are going to make sure that their brother will take over the structure in Rivers state whether legal or otherwise and you think as FCT minister I should fold my arms because you are a governor? Same governor I have been? You are trying to put fire in my state politically”.
Wike also confirmed his refusal to support the PDP’s candidate in the upcoming September 21 Edo governorship election, while reiterating his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership and decision-making.
