Investors recorded a total turnover of 2.14 billion shares worth N51.22bn in 55,603 transactions on the floor of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) during the week.
This represents a decrease compared to the previous week, where 2.82 billion shares valued at N53.05bn were traded across 50,488 deals.
The decline in trading volume is attributed to lower investor confidence and a cautious outlook, as some market participants shift their focus towards fixed-income securities.
The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization fell by 0.15 per cent, closing the week at 96,433.53 points and N55.39tn, respectively.
In addition, most market indices closed lower, with the exception of the NGX Oil and Gas Index, which saw a 1.52 per cent increase. Both the NGX ASeM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices remained unchanged.
The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 1.23bn shares valued at N19.98bn traded in 20,701 deals; thus contributing 57.40 per cent and 39.00 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
The Oil and Gas Industry followed with 262.48 million shares worth N17.99bn in 14,275 deals. The third place was the Services Industry, with a turnover of 155.59m shares worth N532.94m in 3,558 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely Access Holdings Plc, Oando Plc and Zenith Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 517.34m shares worth N24.45bn in 15,502 deals, contributing 24.16 per cent and 47.75 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Thirty-six equities appreciated in price during the week lower than fifty-six equities in the previous week.
Forty-six equities depreciated in price higher than twenty-six in the previous week, while sixty-nine equities remained unchanged, same as sixty-nine recorded in the previous week.
A total of 23,881 units valued at N8.24m were traded this week in 136 deals compared with a total of 37,329 units valued at N8.39m transacted last week in 212 deals.
A total of 21,002 units valued at N19.90m were traded this week in 24 deals compared with a total of 88,071 units valued at N75.39m transacted last week in 37 deals.
