A series of overnight Israeli strikes in central Syria have left at least 14 people dead and over 40 wounded, according to Syrian state media on Monday.
The strikes, which occurred late Sunday, targeted several areas in Hama province, damaging a highway and sparking fires.
The Masyaf National Hospital in western Hama province initially reported four deaths, but the death toll has since risen to 14, with 43 people wounded.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor, reports that at least four civilians were among those killed.
The strikes targeted a scientific research center in Maysaf and sites where “Iranian militias and experts are stationed to develop weapons in Syria”, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based war monitor say. Local media also reports strikes around the coastal city of Tartous.
The Israeli military has not commented on the strikes, which are part of a long-standing campaign to stop Iranian entrenchment in Syria.
Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of war-torn Syria in recent years, targeting Syrian forces and Iranian-backed groups.
The strikes come amid an ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, which has been clashing with Israeli forces for the past 11 months.
