The Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Felix Hassan Hyat, has advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, against actions that could harm the party that made him who he is.
He told Wike that it was wrong and not a wise step to destroy the very party he laboured to build to its present position.
Hyat, who was once minister of aviation, handed down the advice in Kaduna on Tuesday following the worsening crisis in PDP which Wike has been blamed for being the cause.
The minister, even though serving under the All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to state he remains a PDP member even as he struggles to control the PDP structure in his state of Rivers having successfully wooed the national leadership of the party to his side.
His recent utterances during the state Congress of the party in the state have sparked condemnation.
The minister had warned PDP governors to steer clear of the political rift in Rivers state vowing to “put fire” in those states supporting Sim Fubara against him.
The PDP chairman in Kaduna told Wike that it’s better to seek resolution through dialogue rather than threatening PDP governors who support Fubara.
Hyat argued that the governors have a valid reason to be involved, as Fubara is their colleague after all, that Wike enjoyed the same support when he was governor for eight years despite federal onslaught against him.
“Wike should remember that when he was a governor, his colleagues were always at his back, and they protected each other,” he said.
He stressed that nothing has changed in that regard, adding that instead of telling the governors to stay away, Wike should have seen it from this perspective and sought their support.
He told Wike that it is wrong to tell people to stay away when a system they are meant to benefit from is under threat, stressing that if the system fails, everyone loses.
He advised Wike not to destroy the party he helped nurture, pointing out that dialogue and reconciliation are essential to resolving the ongoing crisis within the party.
