TEAM Nigeria captain Folashade Oluwafemiayo rounded off the Paris 2024 Paralympics for the country with a world record and gold in powerlifting today.
Oluwafemiayo lifted 167kg to break her own world record in women’s over 86kg powerlifting.
She had already improved on her 165kg world record to guarantee gold, but still went ahead to take it even further with 167kg
.
With the final day gold, Nigeria finished the Games 40th in the medal table with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
The day before, Team Nigeria made it a Saturday full of medals.
Bose Omolayo claimed silver in the women’s up to 79kg powerlifting event with a 145kg effort.
Omolayo, who had previously won gold in the same category at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, finished second behind China’s Miaoyu Han.
In table tennis, Isau Ogunkunle bagged bronze in the men’s singles Class 4 event improving his quarterfinal performance in Tokyo.
Ogunkunle is the first Nigerian player to win an individual medal in Paralympics table yennis since Tajudeen Agunbiade and Femi Alabi won gold and bronze respectively at the Sydney 2000 Games.
In athletics, Nigeria’s Flora Ugwunwa won silver in the women’s javelin F54 with a throw of 19.26m.
