The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State says it will participate in the upcoming local government elections slated for November 2, 2024.
The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Rt. Hon. Allwell Asiforo Okere, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia.
Asiforo emphasised that the PDP remains a strong force in Abia politics, describing the party as the “beautiful bride” and one to beat in the forthcoming elections.
He encouraged party members interested in running for the election to visit the party secretariat to obtain their nomination and expression of interest forms.
According to sources within the party, the nomination form for chairmanship candidates is priced at ₦200,000, while that of councilorship candidates costs ₦25,000.
It was revealed that women candidates would be eligible to pay only 50% of the total form fees, in a move aimed at encouraging female participation in the election.
This marks the second time the PDP will be contesting local government elections in Abia State as an opposition party.
