The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has commenced the distribution of electoral materials across the 4,758 polling units in the state.
The stateโs local government elections are scheduled for today, September 21, 2024.
However, NewsNGR correspondent reports that some residents of the state are not aware of any Local Government and Area Council Elections and are seen at bus stops waiting for commuter buses to ferry them to their destinations.
The Chairman of ISIEC, Charles Ejiogu, during the distribution assured the public that the commission is committed to conducting a free, fair, and credible election.
NewsNGR observed fewer movements of people in some streets across the city of Owerri while heavy security presence was seen across major roads and vantage points.
At Imo State University (IMSU) junction, our reporter also observed the presence of Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) Imo State Command enforcing the ban on vehicular movement except for those on essential duties.
