The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has pledged a free, fair and credible local government polls.
The LG polls will be held on September 21.
The governor made the promise while addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from eight local government areas of the East senatorial zone in Goronyo at the launch of the partyโs election campaign.
The press secretary, Abubakar Bawa, who represented the governor also condemned the alleged intention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to shy away from the stateโs local government elections on September 21.
โThe leaders of SIEC were appointed by the immediate past administration of the PDP, and I didnโt tamper with that structure. I wonder why the PDP is afraid of participating in the polls organised by SIEC,โ he stressed.
Governor Aliyu told the stateโs opposition that SIEC, under his leadership, will hold free, fair, and credible local government elections.
โI had a meeting with the chairman of SIEC, and he assured me of transparent polls; whoever wins will be declared the winner.โ
He urged the stateโs residents to turn out in big numbers and vote massively for APC candidates to solidify the stateโs ongoing people-oriented projects.
Governor Aliyu emphasised his administrationโs achievements in different sectors, adding that farmers in the state have received free fertiliser, insecticides, and other farm equipment as part of important initiatives to enhance agricultural production.
โWe have installed many solar-powered street lights, constructed several road projects, and our workers are receiving their salaries between the 19th and 20th of every month, which is an improvement compared to the previous administration,โ he added.
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the stateโs APC leader, while commending the state governor for his great accomplishments within a year added that politics should be noted as service to the people.
โMr. Governor, we are very proud of you. You have touched all the sectors of development in the state. Please keep up the good work,โ Wamakko said.
He also urged the stateโs residents to continue to support the administration for it to keep more of its campaign pledges.
In his remarks, Sokoto Stateโs Deputy Governor, Idris Mohammad Gobir, informed the people of Sokoto East that the administration is working diligently to fight and end terrorism in the area, while the state government implements additional steps to keep the state safe.
In the same vein, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, praised the administrationโs efforts to bring the fruits of democracy to all sections of the state and assured the governor of the peopleโs unwavering support.
The stateโs APC leader, Senator Wamakko, presented the partyโs flags to the candidates, which was a main highlight ofย theย ceremony.
