Super Eagles have enough quality to beat any team — Eguavoen

SUPER Eagles caretaker head coach Austin Eguavoen has boasted that his squad is capable of securing victory against any opposition.

The three-time African champions defeated Benin Republic 3-0 yesterday in Uyo in their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture, taking them to the top of their group.

“We have quality players to beat any team but we respect the teams anyway. Any coach can come in and do the same job with the Super Eagles,” the former Nigeria captain said in his post-match interview.

“It is a mindset, we have the potential and how you perceived your opponent, given the information about them and then go out and do the job.”

Eguavoen, who was given the job after the agreement to employ German Bruno Labbadia was broken, attributed the victory against Benin to the formation adopted by the technical crew.

“We can decide to use any system. It is something we discussed and I slept over it. I know with the calibre of players that we have, we can decide to play any formation,” he added.

“Football is about you win, lose, and draw. I don’t believe we have a poor result.”

He praised the performance of the defence, led by captain William Troost-Ekong, describing it as superb.

Eguavoen said the Cheetahs of Benin Republic were a good team, noting that they came with a good game plan under thr guidance of former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr.
