A deadly tanker explosion has claimed the lives of over 30 people in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred around 12:30 am on Sunday, September 8, 2024, along the Lapai-Agaie road, 2 kilometers from Dendo Community.
The explosion happened when a petrol tanker collided with a trailer truck carrying travelers and cattle from Kano to Lagos.
Two other vehicles, including a crane truck and a pickup van, were also involved.
Over 50 cattle were burnt alive in the explosion. The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) is still on the scene, conducting search and rescue operations as more bodies remain trapped in the wreckage.
Speaking, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA Abdullahi Baba-Arab said the incident happened on Sunday, September 9, 2024, at about 12.30 am along Lapai-Agaie, 2km from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA.
According to Baba-Arab, over 50 cattle were also burnt alive and two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van were caught in the inferno.
