President Bola Tinubu has called on all stakeholders in the forthcoming Edo governorship election to act with decorum and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President urged candidates, political parties, and their supporters to respect the democratic process and the people’s will in the election slated for September 21.
President Tinubu expressed his belief in the ability of Edo voters to make informed choices regarding their future leaders. He stressed that democracy thrives on “civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game,” adding that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is committed to delivering a free and fair election.
“The President commends the governorship candidates and political parties for focusing their campaigns on the issues that matter most to the people of Edo State,” the statement said.
Tinubu acknowledged the candidates’ pledges to improve livelihoods, boost economic growth, and contribute to national development.
He also urged Edo residents to remain peaceful throughout the voting process and resolve any disputes amicably through the appropriate channels.
In addition, the President expressed his confidence in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials, calling on them to remain impartial and avoid actions that could undermine the electoral process.
President Tinubu concluded by encouraging all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring a successful, peaceful, and credible election in Edo.
