THE 5-day Quramo Festival of Words, QFest, which began October 2, goes to rest Sunday, October 6, with the formal unveiling of the winner of the Quramo Writers’ Prize (QWP) 2024. The ceremony will be held at the Grand Ballroom of Eko Hotel & Suites Victoria Island, where the festival is situated.
The winner of the N1 million prize aimed at “discovering and nurturing Africa’s next generation of literary talent”, will be chosen from the longlist of 20 manuscripts earlier announced by the promoters of the Prize, Quramo Publishing.
Aside from the monetary prize, the winner will also bag a publishing deal with Quramo.
Established in 2017, the prize award is designed to “provide a crucial platform for emerging, unpublished African writers to launch their careers.”
Each year, the prize begins with a call for submissions of 30,000-word fiction manuscripts. A longlist of 20 writers is announced from the pool of entries, which will then be narrowed down by a jury to a shortlist of five.
The 3-person jury overseeing the selection process includes: Dr. Eghosa Imasuen, writer and Executive Director of Business Development at Narrative Landscape Press, Mrs. Lechi Eke, author, book editor, and CEO of Finished Work Enterprises, Mr. Anote Ajeluorou, writer, former Arts Editor, Head of Politics at The Guardian, and founder of TheArtHubNg.
According to a statement from the Editorial Manager of Quramo Publishing, Omoteniola Akinwalere, the longlisted writers for the 2024 edition are:
