The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has announced its decision not to participate in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November 2, 2024.
The State Chairman, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, when contacted by NewsNGR, said the decision was reached during a joint meeting of the partyโs state executives and local government chairmen held on Tuesday in Umuahia.
The party in a statement issued to newsmen, cited the absence of official communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) as the primary reason for its withdrawal from the elections.
APC emphasized that it cannot rely on information disseminated through social media platforms and insisted that ABSIEC must use proper and official channels to communicate critical updates to political parties.
Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, the State Assistant Secretary and acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, stressed the importance of transparency and due process in the electoral activities of ABSIEC.
He stated, โThe All Progressives Congress is the ruling political party in Nigeria and the biggest party in Africa, and will not tolerate any form of contempt or disrespect from ABSIEC. ABSIEC must ensure inclusiveness and provide a level playing field for all political parties in order to gain the confidence and trust of the stakeholders and the people.โ
The APC reiterated its stance that ABSIEC must follow due process and promote inclusiveness to maintain credibility among all involved parties.
