Veteran Yoruba actress Yetunde Wunmi has opened up about the sacrifices she made for her acting career. In an interview with BBC Yoruba, the 64-year-old revealed that her journey in the entertainment industry began in 1982 when she joined Sunday Akinolaโs โFeyi Kogbonโ theatre group as a stage performer.
Reflecting on her nearly four-decade-long experience in film, Wunmi shared that her dedication to acting ultimately led to the end of her marriage.
She reminisced about a significant moment in her early career, recalling, โI cannot forget Adelove. He brought stage drama to Danjuma film, close to where I lived then. He wore all white that day and arrived in a white car. Everyone ran towards him, and I also went closer just to touch his clothes. I was overjoyed, feeling as if I had touched gold. That was when I developed an interest in theatre.โ
Despite the personal sacrifices, Wunmi expressed no regrets about her acting career, stating, โI lost my marriage due to my love for this theatre. But I have never regretted being an actress since then because God has been gracious to me.โ
