The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of 13 suspected internet fraudsters by operatives from its Uyo Zonal Directorate. The arrests were made in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCCโs Head of Media and Publicity, disclosed this in a press release on Wednesday, stating that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence during a sting operation. Items recovered from the suspects include four luxury cars, laptops, and smartphones.
The statement reads: โOperatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the EFCC have arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters in the Nwaniba area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation based on credible intelligence.โ
Recovered items include two Lexus 350 saloon cars, a Toyota Camry V6, a Toyota Corolla, six laptops, and 20 smartphones.
Oyewale further noted that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
