Security men, Sunday, gunned down a yet to be identified suspected armed robber in Awka, Anambra State capital.
Blueprint gathered that the suspect was shot around 6am by bamboo bus stop, Ifite village in Awka after stealing handbags from early church goers.
According to Blueprint sources, items found in his bag were lipstick, ₦600, Nokia torch phone and 2 cubes of knoor maggi he allegedly stole from three ladies passing through the road in the morning.
One of the victim (name withheld) who works with a popular joint in Awka, and was robbed of her phone and other items said the gang members were three and robbed her at gunpoint before one of them was gunned down.
“I’m coming back from work, and one other girl who was going to church just came out of their lodge gate, and the three men approached me and started asking what I had in my bag. The girl who was going to church saw them and flung her bag into the bush. They searched my bag and saw the phone and money and they took the bag.
“Then the other girl started running into her lodge. After collecting my bag, I was told to run without looking at my back. While I ran towards the bush, one of the robbers pursued me, the other two chased after the other girl. While this was going on, a local security man emerged and shot at the robber, killing him, while the other two fled,” she alleged.
Blueprint reports that the corpse of the suspected robber was still lying in the area as at the time of filing this report.
However, the state police command is yet to speak on the situation as at the time of filling this report.
