APC suspends Aregbesola over anti-party activities

THE Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the immediate suspension of Rauf Aregbesola, a former governor of the state, pending disciplinary proceedings against him.

This suspension follows a resolution from the Ilesa East Local Government Executive Committee of the APC, which has called for disciplinary measures due to allegations of anti-party activities by Aregbesola.

The Ilesa East Executive Committee believes that taking prompt action will help restore discipline within the party and discourage other members from engaging in similar activities.

In a resolution submitted to the APCโ€™s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Osun State APC Executive Committee outlined several allegations against Aregbesola.

These include forming splinter groups and parallel organizations, collaborating with opposition parties to undermine the APC in Osun, and making public statements against party leaders, including President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Aregbesola, who served two terms as governor and was a close associate of President Tinubu, has faced criticism from both within and outside the party for his perceived support of opposition factions during the recent election cycle.

Meanwhile, the State Disciplinary Committee established by the Osun State Executive Committee has reached out to Aregbesola, requesting a formal response to the allegations to ensure adherence to the partyโ€™s constitutional processes.

An anonymous member of the Ilesa East Local Government Executive revealed that Aregbesolaโ€™s suspension followed a thorough investigation into the allegations.

In reaction to the suspension, sources close to Aregbesola have described the allegations and the suspension itself as politically motivated, suggesting that they are part of a calculated effort by the state party leadership to oust the former governor from the APC.

As of the time of this report, Aregbesola has not issued any official comment regarding the suspension, leaving the situation open to various interpretations.
