The Chairman of Benue State Football Association (BSFA), Chief Barr. Paul Edeh, has canvassed for a National Governors’ Cup as a way to give more dignified status to the age-long, all-important competition.
Chief Edeh who spoke, Saturday, during the draw ceremony for 2024 Benue State Governor’s Cup in Makurdi noted that an initiative to organise a National Governors’ Cup will further broaden the scope of the competition.
He said since virtually every State is engaged in the competition locally, the winners from each State should converge at a venue for a national contest.
The astute lawyer turned versatile football administrator said with the abounding talents in every nook and cranny of the country, no effort should be spared in providing vast opportunities for the grassroots footballers to be showcased.
The BSFA Chairman then showered enconiums on the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau who he referred to as a grassroots developer and reckoned that the country’s present football leadership is already on the right path of entrenching seamless development.
Ahead of Lobi Stars FC clash with the highly rated Kano Pillars in one of the scheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches on Sunday, the Benue FA boss expressed confidence that the State-owned soccer outfit will soon soar to high heights.
He said, “Let no one be deceived, I’m aware that a lot is being done to reposition the club by the new board led by Dr. Philip Nongu. But like you know, getting things done in the right way requires some time.
“What the board needs now is our support not attack or any form of pull down or distractive attempt. I’m optimistic that very soon things will get better for the club.
“I want to assure Lobi Stars board that the entire BSFA board and congress members are solidly behind the club. As an Association vested with the responsibility of administering Football in Benue State, Lobi Stars have our 101% support.”
He therefore, urged the club players and technical crew to remain focused and steadfast.
