Gunmen, Thursday, launched another attack at Ifite village, Awka, Awka South Local Government Area (LGA), Anambra state, killing about nine persons.
Blueprint learnt that the attack which took place around 9.15am, happened nearby Witness Garden Hotel and behind Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka.
This incident came less than a week after about 16 persons were killed in similar shootings at a festival in Nibo in the same LGA within the Anambra capital territory.
According to an eye witnesses, one person was shot dead along the Ifite Amansea road, while 6 others were killed at the scene.
A source claimed that the attack also inflicted some persons with preliminary information suggesting that armed men began shooting sporadically, fatally hitting some individuals in the area. Empty shells have been recovered from the.
Meanwhile, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, has confirmed the news, noting that the police response team had taken over the scene and further details will be communicated shortly.
