THE Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has proposed the expulsion of former state Governor Ayodele Fayose for allegedly undermining the party’s interests.
During a press conference yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, PDP Caretaker Chairman Dare Adeleke stated that the recommendation for Fayose’s expulsion stemmed from his purported anti-party actions, including publicly endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Adeleke noted that this recommendation was part of the submissions made to the Disciplinary Panel led by Tom Ikimi and the Reconciliation Committee chaired by Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
His comments came in response to Fayose’s assertion on a television program that the PDP was no longer viable in Ekiti State.
On Saturday, while inaugurating the recently completed Dehead/Faglo Road and electrification project, Fayose reiterated his support for Oyebanji’s bid for a second term, expressing pride in the governor’s achievements and commitment to his administration.
However, Adeleke emphasized that Fayose’s actions had embarrassed the PDP and could mislead the public regarding the party’s true principles. He urged the national leadership to expel Fayose and his supporters, warning that their continued presence in the PDP would be harmful, as their loyalty no longer aligns with the party.
Adeleke stated, “The PDP has established a disciplinary committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi. We (CTC) have met with the committee. Our stance is that Ayo Fayose must be expelled from the party.”
Regarding Fayose’s remarks, Adeleke said, “My response is straightforward: Fayose is no longer a member of the PDP. Anything he says is merely to flatter his boss, Oyebanji. If Fayose claims that Oyebanji has visited him 18 times in two years, one must question why the governor is repeatedly going to him—could it be for financial favors?”
He accused Fayose of being self-serving, suggesting that his public support for Oyebanji is motivated by a desire for more financial gain.
Adeleke questioned the rationale behind anyone supporting Oyebanji, whom he criticized for failing to address key issues in Ekiti State over the past two years, including infrastructure, health, security, and education.
“Where is the infrastructure in Ekiti? The roads are deteriorating, and the health sector is in disarray. We must confront the reality of the past two years under Governor Oyebanji’s administration, which has been marked by a significant lack of progress,” he stated.
The PDP CTC chairman condemned Fayose’s actions and urged him to take the honest step of officially leaving the party instead of aligning himself with an opposing faction for personal gain.
“Our priority is to strengthen the Ekiti PDP. Fayose’s behavior only undermines our collective efforts. As we continue our rebuilding journey, I urge all party members to stay focused and avoid distractions that could hinder our progress.
“The work ahead is essential, and we must remain united in our mission. I also encourage everyone to support the Local Government Caretaker Committees as they work to restore our party’s strength throughout Ekiti State.
“Together, we can create a revitalized and purposeful PDP that serves the people of Ekiti with integrity,” Adeleke concluded, calling on the people of Ekiti to stay calm, patient, and vigilant.
“In 2026, we must break this cycle of neglect and choose leadership that genuinely prioritizes our collective well-being and development,” he added.
