Pep Guardiola has responded to ongoing speculation linking him with the England managerial position, stating that his future remains undecided as his current contract with Manchester City runs until the end of the 2024/2025 season, Soccernet.football reports.
While the 53-year-old Spaniard has played down suggestions that he has already agreed to take over as England’s next permanent manager, he did not entirely dismiss the possibility either.
Guardiola would be a popular choice for the England job due to his extraordinary track record, which includes six Premier League titles with Manchester City, as well as significant success with Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Having won the UEFA Champions League three times and 10 domestic cups, the Spaniard has firmly established his reputation as one of football’s greatest managers among fans of the beautiful game.
Guardiola is by far Manchester City’s most successful manager, boasting a win rate of over 70% across 483 games, and ranks second only to Alex Ferguson in the number of Premier League titles won by a manager.
However, when reporters directly asked about the England role, the City boss refused to engage in the speculation, neither confirming nor denying whether he might be considering the position after his time at the Etihad.
This has only fueled further rumors that he could indeed be in the frame to succeed Gareth Southgate.
“It’s not true. I’m Manchester City manager,” Guardiola told Che Tempo Che Fa, as per transfer football expert Fabrizio Romano via his X account.
“I’ve not decided anything, everything can happen. So I don’t know,” he said.
“Let’s see on my future. I still need to reflect and decide what I want to do.”
