Gauff Becomes First Tennis Player To Win Seven WTA Hard-Court Finals

Coco Gauff defeated Karolina Muchova 6-1 6-3 to win the 2024 China Open on Sunday.

The 2023 US Open champion recorded 24 winners to win her second WTA 1000 title of her career after winning the Cincinnati Open in 2023, where she also defeated Muchova.

She also improved her head-to-head record against Muchova to 3-0 while winning eight of her nine WTA finals.

Gauff was full of praise for Muchova, and congratulated her for swift recovery from injury.

She said: โ€œI want to say congratulations to you, Karolina, itโ€™s great to see you back on tour.

โ€œI think youโ€™re such an amazing player, and you deserve everything, and hopefully you play many more finals.โ€

Gauff won her first trophy since adding Matt Daly to her coaching team.

She said, โ€œI would like to thank my team. Itโ€™s our first tournament together as a full, complete team.

โ€œThank you Matt, this is our first tournament together, and obviously, itโ€™s going well, so thank you for helping me throughout this week.โ€

Gauff is now the first player to win each of her first seven WTA hard-court finals in the Open Era.

She also became the second American player to win the womenโ€™s singles title at the China Open after Serena Williams won it in 2004 andย 2013ย since the inception of the tournament in 2004.
