Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has commended First News for its dedication to promoting regional development and amplifying the voices of the Niger Delta people.
Speaking through the Bayelsa State Honourable Commissioner for Information, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, at the First News 4th Anniversary Public Lecture in Port Harcourt, Governor Diri lauded the platform for its efforts in fostering informed discourse on critical issues facing the region.
“As we gather today to explore pathways towards a brighter future, I commend First News for its commitment to forcefully inform this course and promote regional development,” Diri said.
He emphasized the importance of platforms like First News in telling the stories of the Niger Delta and contributing to the region’s progress.
The governor acknowledged the challenges in navigating the complexities of the region’s growth but highlighted the need for diversification, innovation, and inclusive progress.
“We recognize the imperative of diversification, innovation, and inclusive progress as we navigate the complexities of our region’s growth,” he added.
Governor Diri reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an environment that fosters business growth, supports talent development, and improves the quality of life for Bayelsans.
“Our administration remains steadfast in its resolve to create an environment for businesses to thrive, for talent to flourish, and for our people to live in dignity,” he noted.
Calling on all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, Governor Diri urged experts and leaders to share insights that would propel the Niger Delta toward a prosperous future.
“I urge all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue, sharing expertise and insight to propel our region forward,” he said.
In closing, Governor Diri called on the people of the Niger Delta to harness their collective potential to build a resilient and vibrant region.
“Let us harness our collective potentials and build a Niger Delta that is vibrant, resilient, and equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” he concluded.
He congratulated First News on its milestone anniversary and expressed hope that the platform would continue to inspire, educate, and empower the people of the Niger Delta.

The event featured notable dignitaries and a panel session that examined the theme, “Building the Niger Delta of Our Dream: With or Without Oil.”
