Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the rising costs of food and energy, which are making life increasingly difficult for Nigerians.
In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Ndume expressed concern over the role of “fifth columnists” and saboteurs, who he claims are undermining Tinubu’s efforts to build a strong legacy for the nation.
“Bad elements are trying hard to turn the people against President Tinubu’s administration by advocating for harsh reforms and ineffective policies, rather than focusing on controlling inflation and the exchange rate, which are making life difficult for Nigerians,” Ndume said.
He pointed to the sharp increases in the prices of fuel, food, and other essentials, which have hit the poor and vulnerable hardest. The Senator warned that these so-called reforms are worsening the situation and shifting blame onto President Tinubu.
“I believe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu genuinely wants to improve Nigeria and the lives of its citizens. I know this because of what he stands for. However, some of his advisers may not have the best interests of the people at heart and are giving him misguided advice,” Ndume remarked.
He urged the President to resist the negative influences around him, adding that “the hardship inflicted by these advisers is becoming unbearable.”
Speaking from his home state of Borno, Ndume shared firsthand accounts of widespread suffering, noting that many families can no longer afford basic food due to skyrocketing prices and transportation costs. “Farmers struggle to transport their products due to exorbitant transportation costs,” he said, adding that the cost of travel has become “astronomical.”
“I know that President Tinubu means well for Nigerians, and he should not allow a few misguided advisers to ruin this country. I implore him to take action before it’s too late. Testing the patience of Nigerians is unwise, and that is precisely what these bad advisers are doing,” Ndume cautioned.
The Senator concluded by urging Tinubu to take swift action upon his return to Nigeria, saying, “The purchasing power of Nigerians is severely weakened, and they cannot afford the burdens imposed by those who wish to harm the state.”
