A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has expressed his apologies on the floor of the legislative body concerning his assault on a taxi-hailing service driver.
Ikwechegh was recorded on video attacking Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, which ignited anger and condemnation among Nigerians.
Although he had issued a prior statement apologizing for his actions, the lawmaker reiterated his regret during a session in the House of Representatives yesterday, stating that he felt “embarrassed” by the incident.
“Mr. Speaker, honorable colleagues, I want to reaffirm that I am human, and there were things said during this incident that I truly regret. I extend my apologies to all Nigerians, irrespective of the provocation,” the Abia lawmaker remarked.
“There’s no justification for my reaction in that manner. I want to take this opportunity to urge all Nigerians to let this incident remain in the past and look ahead as we move forward.”
