Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered heightened security measures across Nigeria to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration of the countryโs 64th independence anniversary on Wednesday.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Monday, the IGP directed the deployment of adequate personnel and tactical resources to create a secure environment for citizens during the festivities.
โThe Police, in synergy with other security agencies, will fortify various designated event venues and the major highways across the country, to forestall any threats to lives and property and the celebration,โ the statement noted.
IGP Egbetokun also emphasized the need for officers to remain professional and courteous while carrying out their duties. โThe IGP has directed all personnel deployed for various operations during the celebrations to be courteous and firm in their engagements with members of the public,โ Adejobi added.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding the nationโs security, the IGP urged Nigerians to embrace national unity and peace as they mark the day.

As Nigeria commemorates its journey towards freedom and self-governance, the IGP called on all citizens to promote peace and uphold the rule of law during the celebrations.
