Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State visited Majia town in Taura Local Government Area on Wednesday, following a devastating tanker explosion that claimed 95 lives and left over 50 people injured.
Arriving at the scene with top government officials, the governor expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and offered prayers for the deceased, asking for Almighty Allahโs mercy on their souls and eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
Governor Namadi also committed the state government to fully covering the medical expenses of those injured in the blast and assured the public that necessary steps would be taken to support the affected families and communities.
The tragedy occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday when a petrol tanker traveling from Port Harcourt to Nguru in Yobe State overturned in Majia village. According to the Jigawa State Police Command, locals gathered to collect fuel from the fallen tanker before it caught fire, leading to the massive explosion.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shishu Adam, confirmed the incident: โThe tanker lost control and overturned, spilling petrol into the gutters. Villagers rushed to collect the fuel, but it ignited, resulting in a fire that killed 95 people and left 50 others injured.โ
DSP Adam urged the public to exercise caution and avoid approaching similar dangerous situations in the future.
