FORMER President Goodluck Jonathan has shared his personal struggle following his defeat in the 2015 presidential election, describing it as a trying period in his political career.

Speaking at the inaugural Raymond Dokpesi Annual Diamond Lecture in Abuja, Jonathan confessed that learning of the election results was an emotional experience, leaving him feeling isolated.

โ€œItโ€™s not easy to lose an election as president,โ€ Jonathan said. โ€œYouโ€™ll think the whole world is against you.โ€

However, Jonathan credited the late Dokpesi, a renowned media mogul, for offering words of encouragement during that difficult time. Dokpesiโ€™s fatherly counsel helped Jonathan navigate the transition and find solace.

Jonathan recounted Dokpesiโ€™s invitation before the official handover to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying: โ€œDokpesi congratulated me and encouraged me to look beyond the election. That conversation gave me hope and helped me, not just during the transition but also in my spiritual life as a private citizen.โ€

Jonathan elaborated on this experience in his memoir, โ€œMy Transition Hours,โ€ providing a candid glimpse into his post-election journey.

The former presidentโ€™s remarks offered a rare insight into the emotional toll of losing the presidency, underscoring his resilience and ability to move forward.
